The Tote Road is open.

Current Conditions

The Tote Road is now open from Togue Pond Gate to Foster Field and from Matagamon Gate to Trout Brook Crossing. The South Branch Pond Road is open. The Roaring Brook Road remains closed.

Dump trucks will be hauling on the south end of the Park. Road conditions at this time of year can be gravelly, rough, and washed out along shoulders, and shoulders remain soft in some areas. Observe all speed limits and use caution.

All Katahdin Trails and the Traveler Loop remain closed due to the impact of foot traffic on fragile vegetation and trails above the treeline during this time of year. For advice on alternative hikes, stop by Park headquarters in Millinocket or the Togue Pond Visitor Center on your drive in.

Welcome to Mud Season

If you're hoping to get in a spring hike, remember to always sign in and out of every trail register along your route, observe alpine trail closures, and stay in the middle of the trail to prevent trail widening. Be prepared to get your feet wet!
