Baxter Youth Conservation Corps Presentations 2022
The BYCC Conservation Fellows presented their summer projects to an online audience on August 10. In addition to their work as Fellows, the crew returned to trail work two days a week. They were all really happy to get back to their roots and accomplished a lot in a short time. Mike Clark, who helped lead the crew this year, shared a brief presentation of their trail construction and clean-up. He was then joined by Jake Kowalski to present their joint project, which was the Katahdin and Hiking pages of our new website, still under construction at this writing. Payton Spearin’s project, called My Backyard, shared her images of the Park in her backyard and detailed what she’s accomplished during her time with Friends. Kyle McNally, our newest member, presented a comprehensive look at fishing in Baxter State Park, and Emma McGraw shared her work this summer exploring the invasive plant species in the Park. The projects were part of our soon-to-be-launched website, providing them a hands-on education in website building from Deputy Director Mary Weitzman. We’re incredibly proud of these young people and proud of their contributions to our new site.
